Theia - Single Review: Bye Bye

Christchurch born artist,
Theia's single
Bye Bye is a song of attitude. Starting with gentle techno notes playing subtly in the background to emphasis the emotion, which was also sung through the lyrics "I don't need your fake ass hanging round me so bye bye".
This song is a "big finger up at the doubters and haters" as Theia said when she was interviewed at the Vodafone Music Awards. As her music career begins to flourish, there must have been ample experience of these doubter and haters who "had nothing to do with my life" and "had nothing to do with my shine" and yet kept making the noises.
The style of her singing at the beginning of the song reminds me of Ellie Goulding, and as the song progresses her personal style emerges. I really like her style of singing - it's relaxed with an energetic undertone, a very Kiwi style indeed - and this Kiwi is soaring in the big smoke!

“It’s a glorious, empowering mixtape that harks to the brash “no rules” sonic experimentation of contemporary Charli XCS married with melodies that wouldn’t feel out of place on an early 2000's Britney record” - Tone Deaf
