Here's the second EP by DJ Producer J Plates. Riding on the crest of a busy year, J Plates released a single earlier this year on Skalator Music that gained attention from some of the biggest artists and promoters in the scene. He then completed two new EP's; New Perspectives and Telepathy.
The first track on Telepathy, Dreamcatcher, starts off with a banging breakbeat which is later followed by a nice sounding arrangement of synthesised sounds. When the bass drops, we're hit with a very impressive sub bass. The whole song is banging at this point, which makes it feel fresh and magnetic. It does have a random vocal that fades in throughout the song that adds a human element to the song. This track really sets the benchmark for the remainder of the EP.
The next track on the EP is the title track Telepathy. Starting with some synth sounds and keys, a simple melody line is then added, and it gradually builds. The beat and bass line sound sick! This song is very unique - it sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. The beat and bass line hold this track together well, as the minor sounding melody line chops and changes throughout.
Divergence starts off with a high pitched keyboard sound in a major key. Later it's joined by the beat and a harmonising melody. Again, J Plates has another totally exclusive tune. Divergence is a happy sounding song with a mean sounding bass line that works with the drum beat so well. There's some really interesting scratching pitch bending sounds in the background when the song is in full tilt.
The intro of Seeds of Change begin with a synth beat, which complements the great drum beat and bass line well, adding strength to the mix. This track has a chill feel to it, there's a recorded vocal that plays throughout the song, which sounds like a scientist. It makes the song sound deep with the different aphorisms from the vocals playing throughout the song. There's loads of atmospheric sounds and keys on the intro of final track True Sound. With another banging drum beat and bass line, this song has a stronger sound compared to other songs on the EP. There is a variation of different sounds happening in the background, and the beat and bass line gels everything together perfectly. This is quite a funky sounding track with spaced out keys and ambience.
Telepathy is another great offering from J Plates; it offers different feel to previous EP New Perspectives with deeper sounds. My favourite track was Dreamcatcher with its jungle elements. The tracks Seeds of Change and True Sound were the next strongest tracks in my opinion. Overall, Telepathy is an awesome EP best described as a journey to the deep DnB Jungle vibes.
