For The Wolves - Single Review: Parable
20 Sep 2020 // A review by [email protected]
For The Wolves are a Brisbane based Kiwi/Aussie Rock outfit carving out a place for their brand of aggressive psychedelic rock in the Australian scene. They have had the help of some of the best in the business on their new single
Parable, with Luke Palmer from Dead Letter Circus at the production helm, and Forrester Savell mixing.
Unsurprisingly,
Parable’s production sounds every inch like it has had such experienced hands helping to mould the sound. From the Tool-esque opening phrases to the huge wall of guitars that land in the chorus, this song is a pleasure to listen to, sonically and musically.
The gravelly, powerful vocals of Brad Andrews is the thread that runs through the various dynamic and progressive sections of
Parable, like a guide through an evolving landscape of rhythms, tones and textures. Anthony Molyneux holds the drums down admirably, right in the pocket and underpinning the off-kilter rhythmic sections tastefully. I really liked the tones and balance of the drums in this track, and no matter how heavy or delicate the rest of the instrumentation gets you can still pick out the subtleties in the mix. Bassist Liam Thompson locks in effortlessly with Molyneux in the verse as the bass and guitars diverge, before uniting triumphantly with Cory Cook on guitar in the huge chorus.
There is plenty to take in on this track, every listen through unveils more details to enjoy. All the while, the vocal melody engrains itself deeper into your memory. After the second chorus, a heavy bridge riff gives way to a delicate breakdown, and For The Wolves show us their full range in arrangement and songwriting. If
Parable and their previous single
The Devil You Know are anything to go by, this Brisbane outfit are paving their way to some big moves in the Australian rock industry. These first salvos are sounding very good indeed, and with any luck it won’t be long before many more rock fans cotton on to what For The Wolves are doing.

About For The Wolves
For The Wolves is a powerhouse Heavy Psych Rock outfit based in Brisbane, Australia. Initially formed as a duo in 2015, For The Wolves was conceived when the palpable musical energy between vocalist/guitarist Brad Andrew and drummer Anthony Molyneux became manifest during their first garage jam.
The elemental pairing of primal drumbeats and hooky guitar riffs would lay the foundation for the sonic fusion of hard rock and ambient psychedelia that now permeates their song writing. With the addition of Liam Thompson on bass guitar in 2016 and the rhythm guitarist/synth player Cory Cook in 2017, For The Wolves had solidified their line-up and inaugurated the sound that would propel them into the Brisbane music scene to great reception.
With collective respect for iconic and stylistically unique bands like Tool, Mastodon and Pink Floyd, For The Wolves share a focused pursuit to create original and captivating art through their musical compositions and relentlessly energetic live performances. This focus and commitment to their art has seen the group gain rapid traction in the Brisbane music scene among audiences and peers alike, having played such high-profile festivals as Wallapalooza and Halloween Hysteria, as well as winning a coveted spot on the Dead of Winter line-up via an online voting poll, all within 2019 alone.
