Ekko Park - Single Review: Breakdown

After a phenomenal-yet-pandemic-maligned album release cycle with Horizon, Ekko Park are back with a new single, Breakdown.
Ekko Park (Joe Walsh (lead vocals, guitar), Bryan Bell (bass), Nick Douch (drums) and newest addition Jessie Booth (guitar, backing vocals)), are a well-established Auckland rock quartet with an international pedigree and a penchant for hooky tracks of the highest order of quality.
At 2 minutes and 11 seconds, Breakdown is perfect for the algorithms, while packing plenty in for the listener, during that short window of time. Breakdown is written, performed, engineered, mixed and mastered to an international standard, and is oh-so-easy on the ears while remaining an assertive, pop/punk/rock track. Existing fans will not be disappointed by the development of the band’s direction in this new recording.
The drums are as tight as anything, Nick Douch performing a clinic behind the kit, channeling Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters. The guitars go from roaring with a bright, clear, saturated rock tone, to stabbing in the verses before opening up again in the choruses. Bryan's bass is holding it down, clear and steady and forming an important foundation while Joe belts out the hooks behind the mic.
If you’re a fan of pop-punk-rock then don’t sleep on this, although you’re probably already across Ekko Park and are waiting patiently for the 11/03 release. If this is the first you’re hearing of them, then you’re welcome - now get over to their channels, because you’ve got some catching up to do.

2017 saw the release of the single Going Uptown which continued the bands rise and success in Europe, culminating in Ekko Park's first ever European Tour across Italy with a stop in Ireland.
2018 starts in earnest as the band welcomes new guitarist Alex Hargreaves to the team.
