Thousand Limbs are an Auckland instrumental metal powerhouse that take no prisoners with their blend of Doom, Hardcore and Post-Metal.
A Boundless Heart is their third single off their upcoming debut album - The Aurochs.
What I love about instrumental bands, especially those of the metal or hard rock persuasions is that its universal. Anyone can like something about it when there is no vocals or lyrical aspect to it. However, that doesn’t mean it's automatically good.
Thankfully, Thousand Limbs sits in the category of better than good - they’re great. Actually, that might be a slight understatement. They are stunningly great.
A Boundless Heart opens with a raw, sludgy, down tuned riff. It’s melancholic and dark and has a haunting quality to it. It’s not long before the tempo shifts just enough to a few unexpected keyboard notes before turning it up to 11 and bringing everything else out. Those driving riffs combined with the bass and the drums looming overhead keeping pace and tying everything together. It manages to stay atmospheric without going overboard, but somehow manages to showcase a great range from the band. These guys clearly know what they’re doing and execute it well.
I can already tell Thousand Limbs are going to put out a hell of a debut and I can’t wait to sink my ears in and see what else comes out of it.
Formed in the winter of 2016 in Auckland New Zealand, instrumental metal quartet Thousand Limbs perform a dense and melancholic blend of Doom, Post-Metal and Hardcore.
Having released 2 EPs: Woe in 2018, and Mara in 2020, Thousand Limbs are set to release their debut long player The Aurochs in the summer of 2022
