With a name like Bush Lawyer, the curiosity is definitely piqued to check out this band, a four piece who hail from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, and their second single, Daisy.
With a self-confessed sound of 'surf rock, reggae and ska’ they have hit the nail on the head there. Daisy has an interesting contrast of being upbeat but low key. The ska influence doesn’t take a back seat either and adds some nice flavour with the addition of trombones or trumpets (maybe both!) It may not be skanking dance level but it is still a perfect tune to get your boogie on, whatever that may look like. No judgement here.
As the single name might suggest, it is indeed about a lucky lady of vocalist/guitarist, Caleb O’Fee. A simple and very sweet love song.
As you would expect, the melody of Daisy is spot on. The riffs are very reminiscent of The Beach Boys, and I love that. It has the quintessential summer vibe, but the kind with the sun setting and a cold beer in the hand.
It’s clear there is a solid musicianship in Bush Lawyer and those jam session have paid off. There is no charades, or disconnection here. Just four guys who love music equally, have great talent and want to show it off to the world. Exactly what music is all about.
Daisy is a solid second single from Bush Lawyer. If you’re having a bad day, this is the perfect tune to turn that around. Well done guys.
