Dr. Reknaw - EP Review: Portal

31 Aug 2023 // A review by CuillinHearty

After an almost two-year hiatus, Dr.Reknaw makes a triumphant return with their latest enchanting EP, Portal. This collection features four new tracks that beautifully showcase the band's musical evolution since the success of their album Rektified.

Portal opens with the lead single, Slowly Rising, where mesmerising harmonies and Spanish-inspired guitar picking create an enchanting atmosphere that still retains the band's signature dub influences.

Transitioning to In My Mind, the tempo picks up, injecting more depth into the sound. This track exudes energy and a sunny disposition.'

Healer takes the mood down a notch, with vibrant percussion and ethereal vocals harmonising with the deep bass and distorted guitars.

However, it's Hearts Calling that truly stands out to me. This track delves into darker and heavier tones, incorporating elements of psychedelic soul.

Both lyrically and musically, this EP will captivate you. With its entrancing harmonies and hypnotic guitars, Dr.Reknaw has crafted a simple, raw, and undeniably magical EP. It takes listeners on a journey through the seasons and nature, leaving them completely spellbound.
