Midwave Breaks. The Tauranga duo that has what feels like a boundless creative energy, while also fitting in an impressive touring schedule that is here, there and everywhere. Needing no further introduction, they are back in the seat with their fourth EP - Standing Inside Out.
Kicking things off with first track, All She Was, a self-confessed love letter song from vocalist and guitarist, Bruce Conlon to his wife, and their journey of life together. With a Springsteen nod, it’s heartfelt in all the right place. From the outside in, deeply personal and engaging lyrically while also speaking to the universal aspirations of relationships. A beautiful number.
Next, is the title track, Standing Inside Out. An edgier tone, fast paced with a fantastic synthesizer intro. It’s upbeat and absolutely embodies that 70’s and 80’s tempo, again with a hint of Springsteen vocally. The rock and pop blend is what Midwave Breaks captures so effortlessly. A nod to the band’s youth of the 1980’s, it captures that adolescent freedom so vibrantly.
Rounding out the end of this stunning 3 track EP, is Away We Go. An assault of seemingly chaotic but controlled energy is unleashed, building tension, no shortage of riffs. Layers of melodies. It’s a great way to finish off.
Hitting the nail on the head once again, Midwave Breaks never have to try hard to capture listeners and audiences in a way that is organic and true, and always seem to accomplish what they set out to achieve.
Amazing.
