After signing a production deal with Sydney based label Craving Records, Jackie Bristow set about to record her album Crazy Love with mixer/engineer Helik Hadar (Rufus Wainwright, Madelein Peyroux, Joni Mitchell) and producer/engineer Mark Howard (Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Marianne Faithfull, Sheryl Crow). With an incredible lineup of musicians including Australia's finest guitarist Mark Punch (Renee Geyer) along with international luminaries Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell), Larry Goldings (James Taylor), Tim Pierce (Rod Stewart, Tom Petty), Jay Bellarose (Aimee Mann), Zak Rae (Alanis Morissette) and more, the result has been a tour de force of stunning new material and a fresh new sound.
Jackie Bristow recently secured the support for legendary producer/guitarist/ composer Daniel Lanois on his recent Australian tour of April 2006. The run of shows took place in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Relocating from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia in 1995, Jackie worked tirelessly for five years, writing songs, recording demos and performing across the city, all the while developing her own voice. A break came when her demo reached Michael Gudinski Management, resulting in a publishing deal with Mushroom Music and a recording contract with Gudinskis Liberation Records.
Since then, Jackie Bristow has released several singles and an acclaimed album, Thirsty in 2002. She recorded Thirsty in LA, Nashville and Sydney with a host of collaborators including Jackies long time friend, acclaimed Australian songwriter, guitarist and producer, Mark Punch (Renee Geyer), Grammy Award winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin) and producer David Leonard (Prince, The Bangles). Renowned songwriting team, The Matrix (Christine Aguilera, Avril Lavinge) worked with Jackie on one of Thirstys tracks, while much of the album was co-produced by Matt Fell, one half of Sydney songwriting duo, Butterfly 9.
Winner of the Song For Australia Competition held by Tourism Australia for their upcoming international campaign to promote Australia to the world, Jackies song This is Australia will be used in consumer and trade promotions worldwide. QANTAS is playing This Is Australia, on every domestic and incoming international flight into Australia as of February 2005 and is featured on their inflight entertainment DVD, and Japan Airlines is playing the song and DVD on every single flight as of July 1st 2005.
Jackie has toured with Daniel Lanois, Art Garfunkel, and supported local legends such as Wendy Matthews, Renee Geyer, Bic Runga, Mark Seymour, The Whitlams and The Badloves and Scottish band Capercaille. Her songs have been heavily promoted on hit Australian television shows including The Secret Life Of Us and Home And Away, while her singles have been playlisted on more than 100 radio stations across Australia and New Zealand. 2004 saw Jackie writing a feature song Carry Me Away exclusively for the Australian movie Go Big which was released to television March 2004.
At once heartfelt and sophisticated, Jackie Bristow combines subtle but beautiful melodies and hooks that hypnotise the listener, demand complete surrender and then stick around with the backbone of a real friend.

Jackie Bristow - New Album Posted: Wed Oct 24, 2007 3:28 pm JACKIE BRISTOW New album - Crazy Love LA-based Kiwi singer-songwriter Jackie Bristow has returned to New Zealand to release her stunning new album, Crazy Love. Crazy Love, which includes Bristow’s latest single The World Is Turning, is a hauntingly beautiful collection of new material showcasing Bristow’s alluring vocal ability and song-writing smarts. Bristow was discovered singing in Gore’s St Mary’s School choir when she was 8, and she hasn’t stopped since. After a decade spent touring the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, this singer-songwriter has earned her spurs. Her sweet melodies and hypnotic tones have US critics heralding her as one of New Zealand’s most talented musical exports. Bristow’s warm, soulful, folk-pop style has seen her make in-roads into the international music scene, after first moving to Australia in the mid-nineties and then in 1995 to Los Angeles to record Crazy Love, the follow up to her 2002 debut Thirsty. The album was recorded and produced by Helik Hadar, (engineer to Rufus Wainwright, Madeleine Peyroux and Walter Becker) and producer Mark Howard (Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams), along with a line-up of notable international musicians. Crazy Love includes one of Australia's finest guitarists, Mark Punch (Renee Geyer) along with international luminaries Larry Klein (bass - Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel), Tim Pierce (guitar - Tom Petty, Tracy Chapman, Rod Stewart), Brian MacLeod (drums ˆ Sheryl Crow), Zak Rae (keys - Alanis Morissette, Macy Gray), Jay Bellarose (drummer - Melissa Etheridge, Madeleine Peyroux), Daryl Johnson (bass - Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Emmy Lou Harris), Michael Chaves (guitar - John Mayer, Sarah McLachlan), Larry Goldings (keyboard ˆ James Taylor), Don Heffington (drums - Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams). On the back of Crazy Love’s release Bristow’s music has recently been play-listed across 7,000 Starbucks stores in the USA. On the live performance front, Bristow has toured with an impressive array of notable artists such as Daniel Lanois, Art Garfunkel, Madeleine Peyroux, Renee Geyer, Bic Runga, Mark Seymour, The Whitlams, The Badloves, and British band Capercaille. RECENT PRESS… “Crazy Love is a hypnotizing collection of her original songs that conjure up a seductive world of, well, crazy love and other ethereal things. Bristow is a true original and well worth your attention. Think Joni Mitchell crossed with Dusty Springfield… Not many writers in any musical genres give the attention and depth to lyrics that Bristow obviously does.” - CHET FLIPPO, NASHVILLE SKYLINE, August 9, 2007 “….with lyrics like "I don't feel afraid of loving you this way/cause your swimming in my head, in my heart, my soul..." you can really relate to what she was going through while writing these songs. This woman makes you feel as if she's talking to you the whole way throughout the album; storming heaven's gates taking no prisoners as she goes. There are love songs throughout which will leave you breathless.” - JOHN SHELTON, IVANY TOP 21, August 15 2007 “Bristow is a singer-songwriter with a penchant for sweet melodies and hypnotic tones…her style incorporates a bit of both, blending Neil Finn’s airy pop smarts with Patty Griffin’s emotional directness and vibrancy. Bristow’s low soprano is seductive and soulful; she never presses or wails, but instead lets her voice deliver her probing, slice-of-life songs in laced silk.” - MICHAEL McCALL, NASHVILLE SCENE, May 10 2007 “Some singers have voices that just hit you right away with the first note. Ms. Bristow, with her soft sensuality, is one such artist. She instantly blankets you with her vibe and gracefully leads you through her thoughtful songs. Well-textured and intimate, this CD had an emotional effect from the first listen… This is the kind of female singer/songwriter that can win you over quickly, so fans of adult contemporary beware. Ms. Bristow is one talent that could really be headed upward fast”. - AUSTIN DAZE, May 10, 2007 Crazy Love is on sale now. |
