Soane was born in the village of Vava'u, located in the northern islands of Tonga. Growing up, music was a big part of his life, so to further this a move to Auckland was taken.
Soane's DJ career began in 1989 when he assumed the unconventional position of doorman/DJ at Club Roma and The Box nightclub, cutting up Hip-Hop and RnB under the somewhat appropriate moniker of DJ Big Daddy.
His popularity as a DJ grew rapidly with the Auckland crowd, so Soane eventually decided that standing outside all night telling people that their shoes weren't right wasn't that good so he became a full time working DJ. As time passed, both his record collection and his ability to work the crowd developed.
In 1995 Soane made the break to Sydney to pursue his DJ career, drink lots of booze and hang around with actors from Neighbours. He quickly established himself as a backroom favourite, picking up loads of guest spots and holding down a couple of residencies.
Soane returned to The Box and Cause Celebre in Auckland in 1997, to his faithful crowd. Soane has supported Chez Damier, Mark Farina, Phil Asher, DJ Q and our very own Miles Hollway.
Soane unfortunately passed away in November 2014.
