DSM formed in the winter of 1997. During this young hardworking four piece’s short time together, DSM has supported such acts as New York’s Sick Of It All, Santa Cruz's Good Riddance – both of the Fat Wreck chords label, Epitaph Records Ten Foot Pole, Australian band Mindsnare, and recently amongst many widely renown acts on the New Zealand leg of The Vans Warped tour, notably Pennywise & Unwritten Law.
DSM’s sound in the past has been compared to bands such as Sick Of It All, Suicidal Tendencies, Madball and Agnostic Front, although their influences come from a broad cross section of punk and hardcore.
Other achievements include tours of Australia. Attention and rave reviews from Auckland musical fanzine In My Own Defense. Interviews and airplay from Auckland’s 95bFM. Also attention and an appearance on TV2’s music show Squeeze TV. DSM have been noted for their energetic live shows with a high level of crowd interaction characteristic of the legendary New York hardcore punk scene.
To date DSM have had various material released both locally and Internationally, tracks have appeared on compilations both in the USA & Europe as well as the 1157 release Live Hardcore and their debut full length Nothing To Lose released March 2000. Since DSM's demise members are now involved with Evil Priest, The Bleeders & Dynamo Promotions.
