Rising from the ashes of various different bands, Stingfish formed in early 2004 with a determination to create a professional and powerful sound.
In 2004 the band organised and played numerous gigs around the city, culminating in a successful 4-date tour of the North Island.
2005 has seen the band continue a heavy schedule of gigs around Wellington, with work beginning in March on their debut EP 'Down On The Street' at Inca Productions. The release was recorded with the help of legendary producer Mike Gibson, whose past work includes the likes of Shihad, Fur Patrol, Letterbox Lambs, and The Phoenix Foundation.
After a scattering of studio sessions, pies, and beer, Stingfish have emerged with an EP that captures the passion of the band’s live sound.
The laid back summer-time feel of the EP opener 'One-Eyed' lulls the listener into a false sense of security before the intensity of 'Opinionated' with it’s ‘punch in the face’ guitars and a ‘rhythm section that kicks you in the nuts’ takes control. The songs are simply about people, ranging from innocent bystanders to taxi drivers, the homeless and lazy co-workers.
Stingfish are now looking for a bass player. Flick us an email if you or someone you know is interested in becoming rich and famous!! Well, maybe not but you will get some cheap jugs!
Check out or free mp3 online at SmokeCDs or catch some samples at Amplifier.
