Sativa Souls consists of The Abbot of Kritical Methods and Ph8l of Sky High. Together, Sativa Souls are West Auckland's best kept secret. Doing the hard road up from school talent shows to rocking basements, garages, road trips and open mics their career in the rap game spans three decades, and their friendship even longer.
Ph8l has the claim to fame of getting most everyone from West Auckland into Hip-Hop's 'Golden Era' and earlier due to his vast record collections and his endless time spent studying loops, breaks and his undeniable taste for the 'REAL'.
Armed with an arsenal of mics and over 15 years of lyrical ammunition in their stash, Sativa Souls are set to finally take not only New Zealand by storm, but take over the world with their debut album Erbanized: From '89 To The Present Minute. The long awaited album featuring: Members of Nesian Mystik, Tyna formerly of the Dubious Brothers, The Insomniacs, Kritical Methods, 4th Element, N.D.V.J, Sky High, Truce, Chuck D of Public Enemy, and more.
In order to attract such a healthy array of guest contributors to this project it was Abbot's reputation as a savage MC and NZ MC Battle Champion that made overseas artists and professionals take notice, especially once the hysteria surrounding '8Mile' had surpassed and it was evident that the duo's history was well entrenched in the catacombs of Hiphop's golden era. Much to the surprise of international on-lookers, Ph8l was also noted as not only a ferocious battle MC in his own right, but also an intricate story teller ç a diversity not often found together in today's Hiphop environment.
With a shared love for ruining MCs careers, and humiliating them in-front of their own people, Ph8l and The Abbot have broadened their horizons on to a new professional course, one that will allow them to display their articulate histories, loves, hates, desires and aspirations on wax, holding their signature 'W' loud and proud so people know where they're from while they do so.
Don't choke off the smoke, Sativa Souls aims to lay to waste all those that step in their path toward success and recognition as being one of New Zealand's original rap crews and one of New Zealand's most anticipated exports.
