Yulia

Bio

A household name in New Zealand, Yulia’s current live performances include a selection of songs from the two multi platinum award winning, number one hit albums Into The West and Montage. On these albums Yulia sings fluently in English, Russian, French, Italian, Spanish and Maori.

Leading New Zealand music producer and television and stage music director Carl Doy who worked with Yulia on her albums Into The West and Montage comments;

"Yulia is that rare international phenomenon; a truly individual voice. Add to that lashings of Russian soul, liberal quantities of musicianship and you have a singer who transcends classification. Enjoy!"

Yulia is also focussed on making the necessary connections to showcase her unique talent worldwide in live performances.

Born in Volgograd, Russia, Yulia emigrated to New Zealand and within two years, mastered English and scored a recording contract with Sony Music NZ. She went on to sing fluently in English, Russian, Italian, French, Maori and Spanish on the award winning albums Into The West and Montage, appearing with some of the top names in international music business.

The award winning albums (Best Female Vocalist and Highest Selling Album of the Year at 2005 Vodafone NZ Music Awards) were produced by New Zealand's top pop folk classical producer Carl Doy and remain favourites with commercial radio and live audiences in New Zealand.

Important to note the albums Into The West and Montage were not exported (with the exception of Japan) as Yulia was sadly caught up in the incorporation of Sony NZ into Sony Australia during the merger with BMG. After which the ex head of Sony NZ (Michael Glading) attempted to manage Yulia in between projects after being made redundant from Sony BMG during the merger. Two years passed during which Yulia attended Canterbury University studying linguistics and performing at major venues throughout NZ.

In September 2007 Yulia moved to secure new management engaging www.oikos.co.nz to reinvigorate her career. She reintroduced herself to an even wider age range of audience through a series of live television performances in Nov/Dec 2007 resulting in wide public appeal and commercial interest.

At 22 Yulia is now a seasoned and renowned live performer whose live sets include beautiful songs which are in keeping with the pop folk and classical genre.

Yulia is considered one of the top young vocalists of her generation and one of the best to come out of New Zealand.

Yulia's vocal performance is such a high standard in 2008 that she is signed on as an international endorsee of Audio Technica and uses her own 4000 series wireless handheld system for performances.

Engagement of Pop Singer Yulia & her Manager Glyn
Posted: Wed Jan 9, 2008 11:39 am
Award winning top 40 pop singer announces engagement to Manager & TV & Film Composer Glyn MacLean.

Yulia rose to fame with the albums Into the West and Montage achieving 6 times platinum status with two number one hits. She has previously won Tui's for "Best Female Artist" and "Album of the Year".

Glyn and Yulia are co writing up to 50 songs to present to producers in UK in a bid to get a multi million dollar global music export deal through top producer David Howells. The London based music publisher and former reggae star Bruce Ruffin, believes that Yulia has a great chance of winning the deal.

An accomplished songwriter himself, one of Glyn's songs was the single that scored another NZ female artist a deal with EMI UK.

Glyn rose to fame on TV1 Close Up in 2005 when his home recorded music went up against James Blunt and David Gray for the TV series Las Vegas. He has 9 songs licensed in Hollywood and has been offered a record deal in UK for his instrumental music. His tune "Rain Cloud & the Sunshine" with Swiss Cellist and Model Debora Zeier is currently number one in Adult Contemporary category at www.amplifier.co.nz

The couple has raised finance by selling shares in Glyn's company to David McLaughlin who was a party involved in Holly Smith's deal with Blue Note. Yulia and Glyn sim to focus on writing award winning hit songs over the next three months.
