He has been performing throughout New Zealand since the early 1990's and performed as opening act for international artists Elton John, Eric Clapton, Boney M, Jimmy Barnes and Leo Sayer, as well as local legends The Feelers, Hollie Smith, Fur Patrol and Th' Dudes. His debut album The Human Dynamo was released in 1999, and contained his yuletide track A New Zealand Christmas.

As of 2020 Chris still performs regular solo gigs, is one half of the duo Van Helden Jones, and fronts the band Jedi Nights. He mentors several young Wellington performers, writes and produces original music for film and theatre, and is working on a new album.
