Songwriter / guitarist Simon Kerr once lived and played in the Christchurch, NZ, before moving to the deep south to Dunedin and then, in late 2007, to that small Australian Village of Melbourne.
He is a self-confessed late starter, only taking up performing in his late thirties, and has now played gigs into the hundreds, from folk clubs and house concerts to music festivals and dodgy pubs in NZ and Australia. He released his debut album last year, and has been played on Radio in NZ, the USA and Canada.
Simon plays songs that he makes up; nothing bought from a record shop. A mix of folk, roots, alt. pop, reggae, and world music (strange tunings on the 12 string), it is fiercely intelligent (he is a trained social scientist), full of compassion (he is an empathetic human being) and laced with humour (he is a Kiwi living among Australians).
Variously described as ‘The Pink Floyd of folk music’,
‘The thinking person’s rock music’,
‘One of Dunedin's best’, ‘A prolific songwriter with power and grace’, and that ‘when he plays the 12 string, he sounds like he has a whole band behind him…’
