Vocalist / songwriter / guitarist
Influence will always be a strong factor in making music,
Take it away and the building blocks of inspiration are gone.
If you look at the influence in Jamie Gray’s music you will need to travel back to a time when the great New Zealand holiday consisted of camping and singing songs round the camp fire. Whilst other children enjoyed running around in the sunshine, a more contemplative child listened into conversations and watched with innocence the world that presented itself.
From these inquisitive beginnings an understanding of human nature evolved. Music Inspiration in no particular order – Simon and Garfunkle , Cat Stevens, Ice House, U2, JJ Cale, Don McLean, Dave Dobbyn, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Dave Mathews.
These artists have influenced Jamie and inspired him to craft his songs in the same vain. Jamie attended a school of performing arts (mid 90’s); this was the first step towards giving more direction to the talent. After a year of lessons Jamie was chosen to travel round the country to perform to high school children in a “rock opera” style show along with 20 other graduates from the school. Further recognition of Jamie’s talent came in 1999, when he was chosen as one of the 24 top singer/songwriters in NZ to feature on the TV3 show Get Your Act Together.
