Room Noir was formed by Hadley B & Geoff B over a couple of bottles of old tawny port late in the winter of a mostly forgettable year. Geoff's self-styled depressing vocals were perfectly suited to the airy synths, textures and piano lines accompanying them. The first song 'Breaking The Ice' was immediately penned, a track about getting drunk at wedding receptions, and based upon real life embarrassments the two had caused in the past at various respectable venues. Prescription drugs, the world after man, severed fingers, the Roman empire, and of course lost loves were lyrical topics to follow. Room Noir was immediately born, and over twenty songs were recorded in the space of two years at several locations around Auckland, New Zealand.

The first album 'White Earth' was released independently in mid 2004 with strong support & assistance from New Zealand's legendary Club Bizarre label, and stood tall as a first album. Two tracks from the album appeared on compilations in 2004. 'Dreamlet' featured on Club Bizarre's 'Re-Inventing Sheep' CD, and 'Venus (Gone, Shattered)' on 'A Cloud Zero Tribute to The legendary Pink Dots'.

Several live shows followed at various locations throughout Auckland such as the Khuja Lounge, the Odeon Lounge & even the Auckland Domain. The pair retreated back to the studio in late 2004 to begin work on a second album titled 'Fifth Floor' which was released May 2006. Their most ambitious work to date - the album has been described as a theatrical cabaret journey into the romantic slower moments of electro-acoustic music. Themed around the isolation experienced from being trapped into a downtown inner-city Auckland apartment (the fifth flaw) after a dissolved relationship. The duo moved in together here and set up studio to complete the album. The legacy was finally complete once they managed to move, and thus released this highly personal work to the public. The pair still question whether or not the fifth floor really happened or if they made it all up in their minds.
