Sophie Moleta is a singer, songwriter, composer and music teacher - born in Wellington New Zealand, but growing up mainly in Perth Western Australia with a lot of time travelling as a child, mainly in Europe. Her non-classical music career started as a backing vocalist and percussionist with a punk/ rock group - The Brautigans in Perth. Her music career then led to France, the UK, Australia and New Zealand in various combinations.
Her first main album was Trust - self-released, followed by a Telescopic Records release of the Dive album in France. Two tracks from Dive were included in the soundtrack to the French movie Les Jolies Choses. Since then there have been numbers of other self-released albums, and collaborations with musicians in Jersey, the UK, the USA, Australia, Sweden and New Zealand. One dance single Love Has Come Again with Human Movement's Marc Mitchell has been included on more than 25 dance compilation albums.
Recent albums included the 2004 CD What Happened In Fremantle? with Swede David Harenstam, and the 2005 USA CD Untie Me with the American Holmes Ives. In addition a live concert from Singapore was released as Live at LaSalle in latter 2005.
2006 saw the release of the single Te-Atawhai in New Zealand and in July 2006 the video of that song was released. A track of hers was included in USA compilation In Love & Light earlier in the year. And in August 2006 an album was released of mixes of her popular Awaken track from Untie Me. This nine track 'remix' album is available from digital download stores around the world.
And in May 2007 the album Every Girl I Know Deserves a Packet of Stars was released in New Zealand - with 14 new tracks and a bonus video.
