Bereft of any literary credentials, Bleakhouse are in fact named after an interesting sounding but otherwise nondescript road in Auckland.
Starting with a hiss and a roar at The Boatshed in ’99, Bleakhouse have in recent times taken a more guerrilla style approach, occasionally emerging from the undergrowth to release an EP or play a gig.
Traditionally attracting such adjectives as ‘melancholic’ and ‘moody', the band have since expanded on their sulk-rock roots into livelier territory; and although you’re unlikely to hear a cover of ‘Shiny Happy People’ anytime soon, Bleakhouse live are certainly nothing to get depressed about.
Their debut EP 'We Sped Through the Ozone' spawned a minor hit in 'Vindictive Song' which last reared its ugly head on Active’s Everywhere Sampler in 2002.
