Che Fu

Bio

Che Fu is one of New Zealand's most successful male vocalists, who began his music career at high school with a group of friends. They formed the Low Down Dirty Blues Band, but would go on to change their name to the legendary Supergroove. Their debut album Traction sold triple platinum and went on to win countless awards.

Che parted ways with Supergroove in 1996. One week after Che left Supergroove he went on to #1 success with DLT and the single Chains.

In 1997 Che released his debut solo album 2b S.Pacific on BMG which was soon certified platinum. At the New Zealand Music Awards that year Che received awards for Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and the prestigious Male Vocalist of the Year.

Che then signed to Sony Music and began writing material for his album Navigator. He also formed an eight piece live band called The Krates. Together Che and The Krates spent the summer performing new material at such events as Big Day Out and Pacifika.

Che Fu released an album of his greatest hits and new material on August 28, 2006.

Hi-Score: The Best Of Che-Fu featured singles from Che’s three solo albums - 2b S.Pacific, Navigator and Beneath The Radar – including Misty Frequencies, Fade Away, Scene III, Waka, Random, Lightwork and more.

The album also featured four new tracks. The first to be serviced to media was Chains Reloaded – a remix of his #1 hit single Chains featuring P-Money and Savage. Chains Reloaded also impacted at radio in July, marking the 10 year anniversary of when the original Chains debuted at #1 in 1996.

On release in 1996, Chains went straight to #1 on the NZ Singles charts, and stayed there for 5 consecutive weeks. 'Chains' reached platinum and was the landmark single that brought NZ Hip Hop to mass attention.

Other new material on the album included a duet with Dawn Raid signing Aaradhna, and two other new tracks.

Che Fu was a founding member of legendary local band Supergroove. Responsible for a string of what have gone on to become classic Kiwi anthems, Supergroove generated a staggering 6 Top 10 hits throughout the 90s. Amongst them the gold singles Scorpio Girls and Sitting Inside My Head, platinum-selling Can’t Get Enough and You Gotta Know, live standouts Next Time, You Freak Me, Here Comes The Supergroove and many more.

Che’s debut solo album 2b S.Pacific was released in 1997. It launched 4 Top 10 singles (Chains, Scene III, Without A Doubt and Waka), charted at #1, and sold 2 x Platinum - a landmark for a local urban record at the time.

In 2001, Che released the follow-up album Navigator. Navigator debuted at #1 and stayed there for 3 successive weeks, going on to generate close to 4 x platinum in sales. It featured the singles Fade Away, Random, and the APRA Silver Scroll winning Misty Frequencies.
