Knives At Noon

Bio

Knives at Noon started jamming in late 2007, but only really started doing things worth talking about in 2010, when they released the Glitter Guts EP (through Liberation), and the single and video for Violins and Violence.

Return of Knives At Noon
Posted: Mon Jun 1, 2009 10:32 pm
Knives At Noon are back.

They have a string of shows planned over the months of July and August.

Their return starts off with a huge musical bang erupting back on the scene with a show at Dunedin's Refuel in a supporting role for The Checks.
This is for the return of students into Dunedin, During Otago University's Re-Orientation week.

Next up are 2 back to back friday/saturday shows with The Tutts in Dunedin and Christchurch, at Refuel and Als Bar respectively.

Following ion from this they will pack up their bags and get in a van and proceed to do a National tour with Charlie Ash playing all the main centres.
This will be the first national tour for Charlie Ash after having just returned from a European/UK tour. They played a load of shows including 2 at Great Escape Festival (the SXSW of Europe), and one sold out one with Ladyhawke in London!!!

Also in the mix of traveling the country they are alos managing to take a week to get back with the Clap Clap Riot boys, to once again play Christchurch and Dunedin.

It's going to be an exciting few months!

For information or to find out more have a look at their MYSPACE

You can contact them at [email protected]

The next big thing…Knives at Noon...EP Review for you...
Posted: Sun Jan 11, 2009 9:21 pm
It’s hard to believe that Dunedin’s electro-indie kids, Knives at Noon have only been around since August 07 when you hear the charming foot-tapping tracks gracing their latest EP. It’s fair to say these guys have put in the hard yards to get where they are today, but it’s clearly been well worth the effort, and I reckon 2009 will be ‘their year’.

After touring the main centres in the land of the long white cloud in May 08, the lads came together to record their second EP which is ready to be released this month meaning more live shows for us…yay!

Now, if you’re not familiar with the sound of Knives at Noon, I think it’s safe to say they’re a synthesized dance version of popular act, The Killers. They’ve kept the NZ accent – thank goodness, but they’ve got the kind of style going on that I reckon would appeal to the overseas market effortlessly. They’re definitely one band that us kiwis can be proud to call our own.

Push play on this EP and you’ll be greeted with front-man Tim McCartney’s strong vocals in Heat Up, which are carried throughout the whole track. It’s simple, sharp, and is the perfect introduction for what’s to come.

Purple Star boasts some dreamy drum beats created by Tim Couch while McCarney hit’s some slightly higher notes – a welcome surprise that compliments the sounds of the synth perfectly. Not as danceable as the first song, but a delicious treat for the ears and feet all the same and one that I’m really looking forward to see the lads perform live.

The third track is lively, upbeat and one to put your polished dancing shoes on for. Mix in a delightful opening riff, a few more of those higher vocals, a wicked drum solo with a dash of synth magic and you’ve got Daisy Chain.

This Scene is the final song to grace the lovingly put together EP. It’s a blend of the first three tunes and has a real homely feel about it that leaves you begging for more. The only thing I would have liked to have seen on this disc is the remix version of Heat Up, but I can understand why the lads left it out being that it is quite different. I’m just being greedy, really.

If it’s captivating electro-pop you’re after then I recommend giving the Knives at Noon lads a whack.
Trust me; you’ll be pleased you did.

Hello

Knives At Noon are celebrating becoming a 4-piece by releasing an EP. KaN have been playing as a 4 piece for about 3 months now and could see no better way to celebrate than releasing an EP (yet to be named)
With recording done and dusted they are into the mixing and mastering stage with the assistance of Mr. Dale Cotton.
Excitement levels are high.

Although it is far away a tour will follow this... KaN are looking at december/Jan for the 'release of the EP Tour' with video release in tow.

Remixing!!!
Posted: Fri Apr 25, 2008 5:47 pm
The mixing and mastering of our debut 6-track EP is finished!!! As well as this, we have a number of DJ/Producers, from around NZ and abroad, doing remixes of various tracks. This is in the spirit of our Creative Commons liscence we have for our music - because we believe creativity should be easy and free.

Some of these will be dancy, some of them will be drum n bassy others will defy categorizations, but all of them are sure to be highly unique and take our music to places we never could have imagined. Most tracks on the EP were recorded with a click-track and with a little bit of MIDI sequencing, and because of this and our electric flavor, remixes were an obvious direction. The amount of support from quality producers has been great, and so far we have the following artists remixing songs:

Future One - Auckland
Darkist - UK
Dean Lawz - Aussie
Woosh - Dunedin
MC Beau - Dunedin
Undertow - Dunedin
Module - Wellington
Michael Schraa - Dunedin

Plus a couple more (including from USA) are currently being arranged.

With a bit of luck and a bit of planning, the remixed tracks will be released along with the EP on a limited edition 're-mixed tape' cassette later this year.

If you are a Producer/DJ and are interesting in being part of our creative project, get in touch!
