The Hasselhoff Experiment

Bio

The question has often been raised - what is the fastest thing on four legs?

The Hasselhoff Experiment has the answer in spades, with their album 'Out Of The Sandpit And Onto The Drive'.
Conceived in the clamorous garage aesthetic as only NZ’s noisiest & catchiest rock act can, The Hasselhoff Experiment deliver pedal to the metal on this their third anticipated album.

Recorded in the confines of Acme Audio's workshop, what better environment for this two-headed-beast other than the surroundings of a warehouse full of large speakers, transformers, power packs & leads.

Under the watchful ears of Tex Houston (The 3Ds, Loves Ugly Children, The Subliminals) & Paddy Moran (Jawload, The Ho Dogs, Kitset), tunes like 'Gone Baby Gone', 'Drag Racer' and 'Am I Your Stooge' sure point to the statement of intent.

Though the album's title may suggest kids leaving the sandpit and venturing onto the olds driveway, the songs produced here are as exciting, mad and precocious as ever. There's no polite switch-on of the station-wagon's engine here, but instead that frantic spit fuelled noise you pull off to sound like the dump truck you're ploughing through rough, sandy terrain, perhaps taking a few play mobiles with it as it goes.

The track 'Drag Racer' will also appear in video format real soon, thanks to the 'mad skills' of Matt Heath & Chris Stapp of 'Back Of The Y'.

Their self titled debut album 'The Hasselhoff Experiment' was released on vinyl in 1998 as a limited 200 copy run, via Guitarist Andrew Tolley's label Kato Music when the band was not even 6 months old. What happened next was a great shock to the underground NZ rock system. The album sold out within weeks, the band were touring both here and in Australia leaving a trail of hung-over, cigarette-stained swooning music nerds desperate to be experiencing such an impact.

After winning 'Best New Act' at the b Net NZ music awards that year, the band were quickly signed by the esteemed Flying Nun label, who have since released the above debut on CD and the second album 'Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned', released at the tail end of '99. Again, the second album found it's way onto limited 12" black vinyl as a small but growing international fan base demanded.

The band have landed supports for Internationals: The Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk, The Melvins, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The 5678's, Bangs, Magic Dirt, Doctor Explosion, Rowland S Howard, Bob Log III, Regurgitator and Spiderbait as well as playing alongside legendary live locals The Clean, Head Like A Hole, HDU & Loves Ugly Children.

They were selected as a showcase band for the Pacific Circle Music Convention held in Sydney, Australia, have played first on both NZ Music TV shows Ground Zero and Space, like AC/DC with their first Australian music shows, it was said in reflection that the shows needed to get as much credibility as possible as early as possible!!

The Hasselhoff Experiment are the only band to have played live twice on TV2's Havoc, toured Orewa on the back of a flatbed 18-wheeler and have recently been invited to perform at 95bFM's Summer Series (Feb 10) and tour Australia with Magic Dirt later in year.

The Hasselhoff Experiment have received over 20 nominations in the national b-Net New Zealand Music Awards since the awards began four years ago, challenging the likes of obvious favourites Pacifier & Salmonella Dub. The band were continuously up for 'Best Rock Release', 'Best Song', 'Most Outstanding Musician' (Brendan Moran) and 'Best Album'.
