The Alpha State

Bio

The Alpha State started as a slow burner project in late 2005, following the disbanding of Alpha Cast.

Live gigs have always been different with Mike McLeod playing with various different line-ups in terms of both personnel and instrumentation, sometimes solo, sometimes with an accompanying slide guitar or string section, sometimes as a four piece guitar band, and once even as a seven piece. This is not due to any inflated ego or any members being dumped (think The Chills, Mike was in fact a member of the aforementioned band, the band who won most promising band at the NZ music awards in 1983, the year of his birth!), but just the necessity of having a pool of people to draw on to play gigs, with people's busy lifestyles.

In 2008 the band played Auckland in January, Wellington in June, and Auckland, Wellington, Leigh, Whangarei, Christchurch, Lyttleton, Oamaru in September and October as a solo act but with Mike pulling guests out of the woodwork in each centre.
