All three members of Nightchoir played in the successful NZ band Pluto for over 10 years, supporting international acts such as Muse, Duran Duran, Gomez, Dandy Warhols and playing international festivals – including twice on the main stage at the Big Day Out And two appearances at the SXSW .
On top of a decade playing together in Pluto, Matthias Jordan, Michael Franklin- Browne and Mike Hall have shared their talents with a number of other local musicians and bands including Dimmer, Pajama Club, Gin Wigmore, Stereobus, Julia Deans, Anna Coddington, Head Like a Hole and The Brunettes.
Nightchoir was once considered a side project to Pluto, but after the success of their first album in 2010, 24 Hours of Night, received rave reviews proved this is a band to watch:
“Nightchoir create music at its understated yet riveting best” NZ Herald TIME OUT.
“Densely textured and delightfully executed” Otago Daily Times.
“Sublime” North and South Magazine.
On the strength of their debut album, Nightchoir were invited to the South by Southwest Festival in Texas, and their music has appeared on local and international television shows. They supported Anika Moa, Julia Deans and played a very special gig in Christchurch, the day after the September 11 earthquake, which will always be remembered.
Nightchoir released their second full length album See The First Star on August 10th 2012.
See the First Star, maintains the sensitivity and alt country influences heard on the bands debut album. Layered textures and melody-laden choruses hint to the likes of The Jayhawks and Elliot Smith.
See the First Star was recorded at Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studio, The Lab and The Oven in Mt Eden over a period of 5 months. The album sees the band expanding their sound with Mike Hall and Matthias Jordan sharing lead vocal duties with Mike Franklin Brownes stunning drumming holding the whole thing together .
Band Members:
Mike Hall (vocals, guitar)
