Resporn… what does it mean? Coming back to life? Starting again? Hi-res porn?
In the beginning three boys from Massey High school in Auckland had a love for metal and were looking for any excuse to get out of class. Brad and Dan started as soon as they met, forming a basement metal covers band with strong Korn influences. Meanwhile Andy was in a Metallica-loving hair band from a different social circle, and Anthony was still learning to use the toilet by himself (he was 8).
Time went forward and eventually the two bands merged. The boys were keen to perform and took every opportunity to gig, bringing an undying enthusiasm to crushing bar staff and the odd punter with a wall of sound. It all came together when (following a few line-up changes) Anthony’s awesome scream and relentless pestering cemented his place in the band.
Resporn was born.
With an extensive array of gigs under their belt, including sharing the stage with local metal legends In Dread Response, Set on End and Cripple Mr Onion, they are not afraid to face down the crowd, blasting out every song with all of their original energy and love for metal.
Their sound is impossible to define, but with influences ranging from the classics such as Metallica and Tool, through to modern legends Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, and Lamb of God, it is clear this is not your standard radio friendly style of music, but more a modern mix of progressive and technical metal.
More than a decade has passed since Resporn started playing. Retina, one of their first creations, is pure West-Auckland bogan heaviness, whilst their latest song, In Waves, is an uniquely structured and dynamically varied progressive metal medley. This is the direction towards which Reporn’s sound is evolving.
In 2011 following much anticipation, Resporn released their debut album “Divisionary”, a culmination of all their years of searching for the perfect sound. Following the success of their previous gigs and New Zealand tour in 2010, the boys will hit the road again to take this progressive metal masterpiece around Aotearoa and beyond to spread the word that is Resporn.
The future looks bright and sounds heavy, with their debut music video in the pipeline along with another album. The Resporn sound continues to develop as the boys break new ground regarding what is possible for metal in this country. They hope to headline many more gigs to come, and dream of being part of larger events like the Big Day Out and Soundwave, as their journey continues - taking their music to the rest of world.
Resporn is now known as Seasons.
