The son of a Congolese master percussionist, born and raised in NZ listening to hip hop, jazz and dance music, as an artist Myele Manzanza brings an eclectic style and diverse skill to his craft to create a genre bending experience rooted in jazz and African rhythm. Manzanza is a powerful drummer who has earned himself a reputation as a composer with vision, and a musician who is not afraid to experiment.
As a drummer and a sideman he continues to tour internationally and collaborate with a broad range of artists across multiple genres including Theo Parrish, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Ross McHenry, The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Amp Fiddler, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Ria Hall, Marcus Strickland, Recloose, Sorceress, Jordan Rakei and countless others.
Manzanza works hard to establish himself on the world stage, whether it’s being selected from over 20,000 applicants to participate in the Red Bull Music Academy in London, solo album releases on esteemed international labels Sound Signature, First Word and BBE, or his sophomore album OnePointOne’s nomination for the 2017 NZ Jazz Album of the Year.
In 2019, Manzanza released his eagerly anticipated third album A Love Requited on First Word Records UK. Produced with Australian musical collaborator Ross McHenry, ALR is as much a musical journey as it is an attempt to process, work through and come to terms with the life around him.

Myele Manzanza announces London show & joins Theo Parrish live band Posted: Thu Jun 12, 2014 12:42 pm Recently returning from his first shows in Europe and the U.S. leading his Trio, Myele Manzanza is on the road again this week announcing his first London show with the Trio on the 19th of June before picking up the sticks as the rhythm man for Detroit's legendary producer Theo Parrish. Parrish, who is internationally renown for his expansive genre-hopping live DJ sets and ground breaking dance music productions has assembled a full band to perform his music live for the first time in 10 years and asked the NZ drummer to join his line up which includes Amp Fiddler (keys), Akwasi Mensah (bass) and Duminie DePorres (guitar), for an extensive European tour headlining festivals such as Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Festival in France and Moscow's Outline festival. "Theo Parrish is a musical hero of mine and has been formative in my creative approach. To have him shoulder tap me and fly me out from New Zealand to join his band and perform with him - I am beyond honoured." says Myele Myele will kick the tour off with a first show at London's Jazz Re:Freshed with his Trio featuring expat Kiwi's Mark de Clive-Lowe on keys and Matt Dal Din on bass. The Trio whose U.S. debut performance was selected as a “Concert of the Week” by LA Weekly, will perform originals from Myele's album 'One' which was released on BBE Records late last year.
