Derty Sesh - He’s Back!
The follow up to the debut album of one of New Zealand Hip Hop’s most controversial and talented MC’s is about to drop.
Derty Sesh – Apology Accepted - (Release date February 20th, 2012)
An MC who exploded onto New Zealand’s music scene in 2010 with his self-
produced debut album ’Sic Love’ and who was at the centre of a media storm after
the controversial video for his single ‘Forever’, is back with his much anticipated
sophomore album.
Derty Sesh is an artist who always tries to push the limits, and the reaction to the
video for ‘Forever’ had a big impact on him, and his follow up album takes a more
personal and introspective route.
On Apology Accepted he addresses the controversy and the issues it created, as he
does in the featue single ‘Let Me Go’, a song about escaping the problems he faced
when he was at the centre of that media storm.
“With this album I tried to answer a lot of questions surrounding me since the first
album Sic Love.
I speak about subject matter I never thought I would ever be able to tackle, but at the same time, I am only giving people what they need to know, just enough to answer what they may have been searching for.
The first album was an experiment, this album…is me.”
Apology Accepted is not only a showcase of Derty Sesh’s lyrical skill and
songwriting ability, but his reaction to the fallout following ‘Sic Love’ his ambitious
debut - a Hip Hop Horror concept album.
During the Forever controversy Derty Sesh was characterised in a number of
negative ways in the media; As the privileged son of a celebrity (an untruth he
addresses on this album), an ‘imitator’ and the most difficult for him personally –
being labelled a woman-hater.
Derty Sesh tackles all of these personal issues head on in Apology Accepted, with his trademark brutish honesty, raw emotional intensity…and more than a touch of wit and humour.
Contributing artists on the new album are a who’s who of Aotearoa Hip Hop and
include Young Sid, Ethical, Sir T, Tyson Tyler, Jae’O and Erakah.
