Amber Claire is first and foremost a singer. She possesses an extraordinary instrument, with a purity of tone and expressiveness that has been compared to Sarah McLachlan, Enya and even Celine Dion: all women singers she draws inspiration from.
Behind the voice is an encyclopaedic knowledge of pop music history and a keen intelligence with versatility and musical "roots" to spare. In an industry obsessed with youth Amber’s potential audience is very broad: those who enjoy Eva Cassidy, Bic Runga, perhaps even through to Hayley Westenera could well be attracted to this unique vocal talent. Amber presents herself more as a Grace Kelly than a Britney Spears, she is sophisticated with a hint of glamour - and loves to dress up. She is an exceptional and riveting performer.
The blueprint for her debut album with Sony Music was simple: take beautiful songs with broad appeal, produce them to the highest possible standard and let her voice do the rest. The album was painstakingly produced by Simon Holloway of Beaver Music. The songs are from a variety of sources and include a couple of Amber’s own compositions.
The first single was 'Love Remains' which was written by Larry Klein (best known for his musical collaborations with Joni Mitchell). The second single "At 17" is a timely remake of the poignant 70’s hit by Janis Ian. This single, in particular Amber’s vocal performance, has received a lot of praise and fan mail. Amber’s album is now eagerly anticipated by fans won over by this song.
Amber Claire grew up in Wanganui in an artistic and an especially musical family. She is also a graphic and visual artist as well as a singer/songwriter. She recently sang acapella before her hometown crowd (in February 2004) where a reviewer stated "an impressive vocal range and she totally captivated the audience". (Fred Loveridge, Wanganui Chronicle)
Amber Claire can be best described as an adult contemporary artist. This is a genre of music not often attempted by our local music industry and should be warmly received by an audience whom we’re sure will appreciate their own local heroine.
In Australia & NZ Amber's voice has featured on an TV commercial for the Holden Commodore. She has also sung lead vocals on the theme for the Para Olympics in Australia - her backup vocals were Fiona McDonald, Boh Runga and Annie Crummer.
Amber is also a member of The Mermaids.
