Death In Texas

Bio

Death In Texas are a progressive pop trio.

Ruth and Kane met in music school in their native New Zealand and bonded over their polarised musical tastes. Ruth’s classical piano training was at odds with Kane’s hardcore punk and metal background. Opposites attract, they say.

The pair moved to the UK to seek their fortunes with the sole purpose of establishing a band that would make exhilarating progressive alt/pop.
Bassist Terry Blake joined the husband and wife team to complete a guitarless trio to explore the darker side of pop with the feel of a wide screen road movie. It’s grandiose, over the top and cinematic. Just when you think you have them sussed, they take a left turn and sweep you off your feet.

Death In Texas self released their debut EP ‘We Will Implode’ in 2011, determined to avoid the self prophecy of its ironic title to which so many hungry and ambitious bands succumb on the mean streets of Camden and East London, where the battle lines of cool get redrawn on a weekly basis.

Death In Texas, you see, are lifers in music. Their day jobs are in music, their night time proclivities revolve around music. In less than a year of performing together they have played most London venues of note, building their guerrilla army of followers with equally weird and kinky tastes. Good weird, in fact. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

They will be touring the UK throughout 2013 in support of a string of single releases produced by The Animal Farm. The first single, titled ‘Fear Of The Hundred’, out on 28 January on The Animal Farm label, showcases a band unafraid, positively gagging to challenge your views on what pop music should sound like.
Now is the time to catch them, while the rest of the world is still oblivious. It’s inevitable that they, too, will catch on, because Death In Texas are, like death and taxes, rather unavoidable in this life.

Band Members:
Ruth Power (piano, lead vocals)
Kane Power (drums, vocals)
