Auckland based Alt/Pop/Rock band Hangar 18 are hungry and talented with a passion for performing live. They thrive best when on stage, their energy and excitement coupled with their enthusiasm is infectious. From pop orientated tracks such as Say It To Me, that will get you grooving along, to Never Gonna be the Same, which will have you bouncing on your feet all night long.
With a truly unique line up and one of a kind personalities this band includes members from London (UK) and Manila (Philippines) now based in Auckland (New Zealand), Hangar 18 are the nicest bunch of chaps to hang out with and work with, they are dedicated to their craft but also know how to have fun and enjoy themselves, being good humoured and lively, there is never a dull moment when your around them.
Their songs are eclectic in theme, ranging from love songs, break ups to gun control, from murder to mental health issues, songs about traveling, about people, and about pretty much every subject in between.
Unusual for most groups, as all the songs are written by the drummer Paul Marshall who has over 200 songs, with 40 already recorded and demoed. The talent doesn't stop there, Paul also makes the music videos himself, story boarding, scripting, filming, directing and editing are all in a day's work. Paul also utilises the help of fellow video maker and Hangar 18 guitarist LC and his video production crew for the more elaborate shoots.
Hangar 18 was formed by Paul Marshall, who recruited Malcolm Foster on the bass. Malcolm is best know for his time performing and recording with The Pretenders and Simple Minds. So Paul and Malcolm are “the veterans” in the band working for many years in the music industry. Paul then recruited Red Dela Pena on vocals and LC Reklamo on guitar, completing the Hangar 18 line up. Paul says “my idea was to form a male version of Garbage, comprising of 2 established “veterans” with some new blood at the helm, similar to what Butch Vig did with Shelly Manson from Garbage”.
With a unique blend of backgrounds, cultures and experiences mixed with solid song writing, Hangar 18 are producing some great tracks. The songs are being produced by legendary UK producer Steve James (The Sex Pistols, The Jam, Shirley Bassey, Vera Lynne and many more).
Hangar 18 have already toured as support to many international artists, plus they have toured New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, China and Macau.
Hangar 18 love performing live and are looking to tour to take their sound and songs to the world (post COVID-19).
