Jock Nowell-Usticke, known professionally as BAYNK, transformed from a saxophone-playing engineering student in New Zealand into an acclaimed electronic music producer. Initially inspired by artists like Skrillex and Flume, he began producing music after downloading Ableton and quickly built a devoted following. Over the past decade, BAYNK has amassed hundreds of millions of streams, performed sold-out international tours, headlined festivals, and received a Grammy nomination.

His artistic evolution is particularly evident in his sophomore album, Senescence, which serves as a companion piece to his 2021 debut Adolescence. While his first album explored the raw emotions of youth, Senescence delves into deeper themes of mortality, love, loss, and human connection. The album showcases BAYNK’s sophisticated fusion of pop, deep house, club music, funk, and ambient sounds, marking his most fully realized work to date.

BAYNK’s musical journey reflects a deliberate progression from creating festival-ready electronic music to developing a more nuanced artistic voice. Drawing inspiration from artists like Caribou and Toro y Moi, he crafts complex compositions that express anxiety, longing, and vulnerability through varied textures and melodies.
