The Pocket Herc is a New Zealand-born singer-songwriter, beat maker & music producer, based in Sydney, Australia. He is an un-signed, independent recording artist, whose debut mixtape 2020 Hindsight will be released in early 2020.
All songs were entirely written, recorded &/or performed by Herc – all recorded & produced in his tree top home, during evenings & weekends, while working full time as a designer/art director.
Coming into the new decade, Herc felt inspired to create a mixtape based upon the thoughts, feelings & experiences collected during his journey into adulthood. His style is genre-fluid & inspired by pop, hip hop, country, rock, electronic, grunge, indie, metal artists – heavily influenced by 80’s, 90’s and 00’s tracks, synths & beats.
Herc’s eclectic sound could be described as digital native-focused, melancholy, poetic, moody, lethargic, unvarnished, grunge, anti-pop you can sometimes dance to.
Artists which have influenced & inspired Herc, include –
Silverchair, Nirvana, Marilyn Manson, Alanis Morisette, Tracy Chapman, Joan Armatrading, Azealia Banks, Cardi B, Timbaland, Santigold, N.E.R.D, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, Salt n Pepa, TLC, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Lady Gaga, Kesha and Britney Spears.
In his own words…
"I would describe my mixtape 2020 Hindsight as a decade of pent up thoughts, ideas & feelings, which were released from my brain & into a microphone with a sense of urgency & clarity."
