New Zealand Music Industry stalwart Andrew Featherstone has done his time having recorded and promoted hundreds of up and coming artists over the past 30 years as label, studio and Battle of the Bands National Championship and World BOTB competition owner.
What some may not know about Featherstone is that he’s a songwriter and bass player in his own right, one who’s had his fair share of close calls in the success stakes. His most recent project The After with debut single Clear To Me is creating the most interest in his career to date.
Having been signed to MCA/Universal last year, Grammy nominated producer Steve James (Sex Pistols, The Rutles, Ginger Baker, Paul Young, Shirley Bassey, Monty Python’s Life of Brian (incl. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life..)), was recruited and the first single recorded.
New Zealand radio and television are lapping up the Pink Floyd Esque track which has been playlisted on various radio formats. July ‘21 sees the international launch with early indications it is a hit song on the rise.
Clear To Me was recorded in Australia and New Zealand and features guest keyboardist Eddie Rayner (Split Enz, Crowded House, ENZO)
"Clear to Me was composed during a period in my life when my son, River had just been born and I had too many things happening in my life, living in my recording/rehearsal studios complex and juggling global projects. So, one day my family and I got in the car. I took an acoustic guitar, drum machine and 4 track recorder, drove North - just escaped and ‘found a house down by the ocean’ (the opening lyric) to get away from everything and reflect’. ‘It’s been a well-received song live and I am proud to work with such a world class producer and to have it released through Universal".
Andrew has performed alongside No Doubt (US), Collective Soul (US), Ocean Colour Scene (UK), Silverchair (AUS), Everclear (US), as well as The Unity Hong Kong Handover Concert.
During 2020/21, The After repeatedly toured NZ whilst most of the global live music industry was at a stand-still. The Asia & Australia legs of the Asia Pacific Tour have been rescheduled to March/April 2022.
