Davey Beige is a singer-songwriter who plays blues, rock and electro-rock. At one time over a dozen beige suits filled his wardrobe. A majority of this historic menswear collection featured fawn safari suits and these were the genesis for his stage name. This was back in the day when he and his band The Peter Stuyvesant Hitlist were performing at many a corporate Christmas party in Auckland and beyond. Currently Davey’s name still remains however the safari suits have been upgraded for rock’n’roll threads.
Davey’s new EP Rise Above is set to be released in April of 2022 and the four songs on it are shaped by his recent passion for electronic synths and drum machines. Davey collaborated on the music with experienced producer and musician Zed Brookes. Over the previous two years Zed and Davey shaped the songs by swapping music files, rough demos and computer tracks. The result as Davey describes the ep is ‘electro-rock’. Davey says, “The songs just kept on getting bigger and bigger as we added more guitars and electronic instrumentation. Sometimes this approach dosen’t always work but as we added more sounds and flavours the tracks felt really epic, so at a certain point we just went with it.”
With over thirty years of professional experience as a guitarist, songwriter, singer, teacher, columnist and performer Davey has worked with many notable New Zealand artists including John Rowles, Bunny Walters, Fiona McDonald, Peter Urlich, The Topp Twins, Dave McArtney, Jackie Clarke, Harry Lyon, Don McGlashan, The Grand Central Band and Riqi Harawira. Previous Davey Beige releases are Fold In Two - Full length album, 2007; Hard Work - Four track EP, 2014; Beginners Mind - Full length album, 2017.
