Zed Brookes has been involved with Tandys Recording Studio, The Zoo Studio and later WINTEC’s recording facility at the Department Of Media Arts, and helped revolutionise the Waikato scene by providing scores of bands and musicians with the opportunity to lay down world-class tracks with cutting edge equipment. His diverse credits include Midge Marsden, Knightshade, The Datsuns, Katchafire, The Narcs and way too many more to mention.
In between time he has also found time for his own music, including Step Chant Unit, whose 1985 hit Painting Pictures went top 40 on the NZ charts (the first Hamilton band to achieve this feat).
He recently released a well-received solo alt-pop-rock album O Sweet Cacophony in 2016.
Andrew Johnstone is a musician, journalist, artist and cow whisperer, and is the subject of Costa Botes’ documentary When The Cows Come Home.
Zed and Andrew first worked together on some of Andrew's tunes in the early 80's, culminating in the epic space-country concept album The Wallflower released on Hark Records in the early 90's.
After a gap of over 20 years where they did their own thing with life, music and art, they caught up again and found that their collaborative songwriting magic had not faded.
They managed to quickly produce a retro 60's/70's pop pastiche album titled L.O.V.E in 2018.
Their latest album When Summer Falls, Break Down the Walls, has found the pair establishing a stronger stylistic center that combines dark grooves and beats with indie pop-rock.
They also have a side-project "The Commercial Branch" where they build songs out of fake ads and jingles.
