Averie’s sound reaches past the common singer-songwriter, delving into the exploration of neo-soul and alternative jazz, filling the void in Aotearoa’s sound and music industry with the melodies that it craves. Charlotte Avery, known professionally as Averie, is a 22-year-old Filipino-Kiwi artist Her music experiments with a unique yet beautiful interplay between luscious vocals, playful yet heartfelt lyricism, and groovy percussion. From soft to sultry, Averie’s voice presents a versatile tone that layers its harmonies delicately within interesting structures of jazz chords and neo-soul rhythms. Inspired by growing and popular international artists such as RAYE, Eloise, and Erykah Badu, Averie’s songs explore varying genres. Her writing often details the many nuances of modern love and relationships, and, at other times, the challenge of growing up and navigating the complexity of feelings related to friendship, culture, family, and the beautiful everything-in-between that exists in one’s twenties.

Averie’s recent departure from successful Wellington duo-band Girl Best Friend offers a world of curiosity and anticipation for her solo-project. Finally allowing her individual talent to flourish as a vocalist, guitarist, producer, and songwriter, Averie’s sound holds great promise that will soon come to fruition upon the release of her upcoming debut single. Produced with NZ producer Casual Healing, just before you go is a flirtatious and jazzy track set for release in April 2024. Despite the song being her debut, just before you go was selected for funding by New Zealand On Air, representing a promising career to come in which every future single is one of quality. The single will be accompanied by a romantic storytelling music video directed by Jackson Doudney. Averie’s recognised and unique potential teases many exciting possibilities for Aotearoa’s music scene and the voice it offers for Asian women in music that Averie craves to hear herself.
