Combining unique timbres with pulsing bass and punching drums, Weka’s instrumental electronic sound is diverse, beautiful, and thought provoking, urging audiences to dance uninhibitedly.

Weka’s distinctive sonic tapestry has seen them become in demand performers and sound designers throughout the globe.
Weka started as a solo project, founded by Angus Woodhams After sitting down at the piano at 6 years old, he became hooked on crafting transcending sound.
Combining an honours degree from the New Zealand School of Music with self-taught skills using samplers, synths and various software, he is at peace in his studio crafting new creations, developing interactive art installations and enjoying the adventure of creativity.
After a hiatus traversing the globe and exploring other projects, in 2023, Weka reemerged as a three piece, with Mitch Harty on Guitar and Cathal Ennon on Drums.
Weka has performed alongside a growing list of the world’s finest musicians including Opiuo, Freq Nasty, NAPT, Imon Starr, K+Lab, Tyson Smith, Kakapo and Paige Julia, at festivals such as the Performance Arcade (Wellington), Twisted Frequency (Takaka) and Discombobulation (Nelson), as well as at famed Wellington venues including San Francisco Bathhouse, Sandwiches, Bodega, Mighty Mighty, Carlucci Land and a live-to-air on Radio Active.
Alongside their exciting original work, Weka has remixed the likes of Module, cinematic master Rhian Sheehan, Wolfgang Gartner and the amazingly talented songstress, Tiny Ruins. Weka is constantly exploring - pushing sound to new and exciting places.
As an individual artist, Angus has exhibited audiovisual installation work as part of the award winning Interrupt Collective, at festivals in Australia, Singapore and throughout New Zealand, and created soundscapes for the Guildhall in London.
In 2024 Weka is pressing ahead, with a single release in spring and national tour in summer, along with more sonic artwork. Keep your eyes and ears open for Weka - a unique sound taking New Zealand by storm.
