A sonic thunder rolls across West Auckland.
Epakist are poised to burst onto the Tamaki Makaurau scene and beyond in the lead-up to the release of their debut EP.
Founded in a classic rock’ n roll fashion, Jason (bass) pulled the band together. He first enlisted his longtime friend Josh (drums). Then, after meeting at a party in Piha, he convinced Jamo (guitar) to join. After jamming for a while, it became clear that the trio needed a vocalist.
After returning to Aotearoa from a decade in Japan, Beej (vocals) had vowed never to perform live music again - feeling jaded and having lost his love for the craft. That all changed when Jason invited a hesitant Beej to a jam; the connection between the four was instant, and Epakist was born.
Epakist have drawn from a long line of influences and describe their sound as a soundtrack to a threesome between Fu Manchu, Pink Floyd, and the Butthole Surfers. With Jamo coming out of Yebiisu and Roof Dog, Jason with Snakes and Daggers, Josh with The Twitch and a vast array of other bands, and Beej having toured Japan solo and with members of The Common Enemy, Epakist is built on a wealth of experience in the music scene.
Forging their identity and sound has been a “careful and slow process” but one that represents who Epakist are, as the band takes on a meaning and sound unique to them. Absolutely original, high-octane, soulful, groovy, and bound to wake the neighbours.
Plans for live shows and future recordings are underway, but for now, the boys are “enjoying the moment” and the build-up to their debut release.

Bryan 'Beej' Thompson (vocals)
