At the start of 2003, four friends were drawn together by a single realization - music should be synonymous with fun. If it's not fun, it's a waste of time. With this code in mind, 48May was born.
Jon Austin (vocals, guitar), CaptainHook (guitar, vocals), Jarod Brown (drums, vocals) and Shannon Brown (bass, vocals) were friends well before 48May. Hook and Jon went to school together and have been writing music together for years, while the Brown brothers are both well known on the New Zealand music circuit for their roles in bands such as Mama Said and Tadpole. Each hailing from a different former band, every member contributes a certain musical dynamic that gives 48May it's unique edge. As top New Zealand DJ, Mike Puru so succinctly put it, "sometimes a cupboard full of a mixture of ingredients can be thrown together - and the result is an amazing meal. The same applies for 48May".
Described as "Sum 41 meets Foo Fighters, with a hint of Def Leppard", 48May's feel-good music perfectly reflects their laid-back, outgoing personalities. Filled with dynamic guitar hooks, driving grooves, phat bass lines, and infectiously catchy harmonies and melodies, their songs are guaranteed to have you tapping your feet and rocking along...
Onstage, the bands energetic live performances, coupled with their collection of single-worthy songs are guaranteed to blow minds and eardrums, and leave audiences eager to hear more of 48May's contagious style of pop-punk.
Driven to succeed, yet determined to have fun in the process, the world better watch out for 48May.
The band pride themselves on their professional attitude and determination to succeed in the music industry, whilst simultaneously holding fast to the one thing that originally drew them to a career in music‚ having fun.
Jarod left 48May in 2007 and drums are now played by Dan Bicknell.
Band Members:

Jon Austin (vocals, guitar)
Dan Bicknell (drums, vocals)

48May Are Back! Posted: Tue Feb 20, 2007 6:37 pm Hamilton pop-rock quartet, 48May, are back with a brand new single, and a brand new member! In a follow up to their first, jazz-fuelled single 'Nervous Wreck', the May's latest offering 'Big Shock' is a blistering rock track which mixes dynamic guitar work and discotheque beats. Big Shock is also set to signal the release of their second album, 'Streetlights and Shadows'. Due out in April, 'Streetlights and Shadows' will not only see a departure from the bands traditional sound, but also the departure of 48May's drummer, Jarod Brown.
