Hailing from sunny Nelson, The Housewives set out at the start of 2003 to make their mark on the NZ music scene with their unique blend of good times rock 'n' roll, massive stage presence and uncompromising humour.
Coming from a range of musical backgrounds and bands, The Housewives were to showcase an eclectic range of tastes and talents. Three of the four members are active members of a highly successful local jazz quartet The Groove Collective which have been gigging around Nelson, Blenhiem and Auckland for the last year.
The Groove Collective was also part of the 2002/03 Nelson Jazz Festival, as well as writing an original soundtrack for national TV. Three of the members were also part of last years Rockquest entry The Long Division Unit playing long, technical crap that nobody ever really got the hang of, while the fourth member was part of last years winning Nelson band Insipid.
Their first objective was to take out top prize at their regional Coke Smokefree Rockquest, which they did, narrowly beating fellow band Monkey Puzzle.
While the band slaves away writing new material and preparing for Rockquest semi finals, they also intend to record an EP in 2004, as well as writing another soundtrack. More than this, the band aims to rock the hind cheeks of any and everyone in earshot.
Band Members:
Dan Rainey (bass, vocals)
Joe McElhinney (drums, backing vocals)
Charl Laubscher (lead guitar, backing vocals)
Johnny Gudsall (guitar, backing vocals)
