Bio

Formed in 2016 Blue River Baby 'B.R.B' are busy recording new music for their second album with the first singles releasing mid 2021. This highly productive Poneke / Valley 6-piece funk dub & soul collective brims with fresh new talent and amazing lead vocals from Ree Thomson.

The bands self-titled debut album was recorded with Dr. Lee Prebble who has been instrumental in projects from L.A.B. and The Black Seeds. Released 2019 B.R.B's first album hit #1 on the NZ Indie (IMNZ) Top 20 Album Chart and #8 on the Official NZ Music Top 20 Album Chart, and held three weeks in both charts in the company iconic acts like L.A.B., Six60, BENEE, Drax Project, Troy Kingi, Katchafire & Aldous Harding.

B.R.B received a bunch of ongoing commercial and student radio play around NZ 2019 and into 2020. In March 2020 they re-entered the (IMNZ) Top 20 Album Chart at #12.

Late last year their track Vigilante Panda went viral on Tiktok clocking 425,000 plays in the US plus 68,000 views and counting on YouTube. Their single Blackyard Town was selected by Radio Active as their NZ top 11 hit pick. Music from the Album has been featured on Radio NZ with Jesse Mulligan and The Hits Nationwide.

Travelling with a sound environmental message BRB Achieved a World 1st by releasing their Debut Album on 100% re-used CD Cases.

With the fab new line-up of Ree Thomson vocals, Cam Crawford keys, Leith Hazlitt-Black drums, Matt Fitzpatrick guitar, Henry Smithers bass & John Gualter sax.

This crew are working up fresh new tunes with Toby Lloyd ‘Tiny Triumph Records’ onboard as producer. Toby has worked with the likes of Shapeshifter, Hollie Smith, Rob Ruha, Nightmares On Wax, Ladi6, Louis Baker, Sea Mouse, Israel Starr and more.

2021 has seen BRB re group and refine their sound, writing quality new songs & building momentum towards their sophomore album alongside producer Toby Lloyd . The albums first single Pay was recorded in October 2020 at the Surgery Studios Wellington and mastered with Chris Chetland KOG studio is set for release mid 2021. The next two singles and audience pleasers Green Cones and Mind Reader have been tracked with Toby at Surgery Studios and are now in production.

Trumpet player Barrett Hocking 'Blackseeds' has added his touches on the first track Pay and will also jump on Green Cones and Mind Reader.
