Madeleine Howard today launches her anticipated new track, Missing Pieces. The release follows the announcement that her first single, No More, has been included in NZ On Air’s New Tracks compilation.
Written while attending University of Otago’s Contemporary Performance Programme in 2014, the uplifting pop single is inspired by student life in Dunedin and “trying to figure everything out”. “Hopefully it’s a song people can relate to,” she says. “Missing Pieces is quite different to No More, it’s an upbeat, driving, faster song, with a happier sound.”
Originally from Hawke’s Bay, Madeleine moved to Christchurch in 2017, and is now a part of the SOLE Artist Development programme, working alongside artist mentors Sacha Vee and Will McGillivray (NOMAD).
“I originally wrote the song back in 2014, then re-worked it in 2019 with Sacha’s help,” Madeleine says. “We changed almost all the lyrics and the melody for the chorus. Will McGillivray then added some catchy guitar riffs to give it an overall uplifting pop vibe.”
The announcement that her earlier single had been picked up as part of New Tracks with NZ On Air was already a highlight, she says. The compilation of new songs from New Zealand artists is made available to broadcast media. “It’s definitely a boost,” Madeleine says.
Missing Pieces launches on 19 June on all streaming platforms. In the coming months, Madeleine will release consecutive singles as she gears up to launch her debut EP, a collection of personal and emotive songs.
