Pluto marks the scorching entrance into our planetary orbit for fast-rising Auckland creative Silas Futura. Following on from the release of two banging singles - the infectiously dreamy and SmokeyGotBeatz produced Precious, and the explosively energetic Compulsion Feat. Tei., Pluto embodies a sweet metamorphosis for Silas.

From his previous work under the moniker Bobandii, Silas emerges to reveal a monumental musical shift as he completely recreates his process of music production from the ground up. Where he used to lean heavily into electronic production, this new approach has propelled Silas into working with some of New Zealand’s most talented musicians to bring forth a cacophony of sound – visiting Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul and R&B along the way.

Focus track for the new release is the blissfully chilled out Best Side, one of the first projects that Silas finished on Pluto. The song quickly came together, with the beat made in a few hours and the lyrics completed that afternoon. “I always feel like the best songs are finished in a day, and this was one of those special moments” says Silas.

Penned in Auckland’s Myers Park, out the back of St Kevin’s Arcade on a super sunny day, Silas beautifully captures the heavenly laid-back mood and positive vibe. “I felt like I was really living at that moment, which gave me the hook – ‘I want you to stay living on the best side’. I just wanted to share that feeling of peace through the music, ‘Call it what you may, but it’s alright here’.

Silas Futura’s debut EP Pluto was recorded, mixed and mastered at Red Bull Studio NZ by the talented Ben Lawson. A fully tracked project with a heavy influence of Neo Soul, Funk and Jazz, Pluto also features some of Silas Futura’s favourite musicians from an incredible group of gifted jazz musicians on instrumentation, to collaborations with featured artists Tei., Fable and Pollyhill.

Silas continues to develop with a fresh confidence to integrate his own truth and personal story into this new sound. As part of the exciting and diverse collective of young Auckland artists and creatives under the wings of Watermelon Sundae, the move in this direction was a move toward transparency and authenticity for himself as an artist, and it is where Silas Futura has fully emerged.
