Jim Beam Homegrown are excited to announce the first 30 acts for next year’s event. Organisers of the original all-Kiwi music festival are stoked with the strength of all 5 stages that will grace the Wellington waterfront on March 19th, 2022.
“There’s a lot of competition for New Zealand acts this year with the borders still closed but every stage is looking really good. It’s a bit like changing a menu, we’ve kept the favourites everyone wants as well as adding lots of fresh new talent, we’re really happy with how solid it is across the whole event.” Says event director Andrew Tuck.
The Park Stage will see hitmakers Drax Project, in their first headlining spot at the iconic festival. In support will be the indomitable Kora, the silky-smooth sounds of Sons of Zion and Ladi6 and a reggae masterclass from Katchafire. New-comers Swiss & Tree will open the stage with their fresh take on RnB.
Local legends Shihad will play alongside rock stalwarts, Devilskin and Villainy in the impressive new arena-like Rock stage. This will also be the perfect place to showcase the massive sound of Racing and Homegrown debutants, The Beths.
The pop/hip-hop flavour of the Lab Stage will see crowd favourites SACHI, Mitch James and Kings share the stage with phenomenal rapper JessB and Homegrown first-timers Aacacia and Lady Shaka.
Thanks to the support of Tiger Beer, the ever-popular Electronic Stage will have a make-over and substantially increase its size. The bigger capacity is needed to house the internationally recognised Drum n Bass genius of The Upbeats, Lee Mvtthews, Quix and Australian based Flowidus. Half Queen and Trei & Jabz MC are tasked with kicking things off in the new-look marquee.
For a more ‘lay-back on the grass’ type vibe, the City Stage will see legend Sir Dave Dobbyn and Gin Wigmore join Raglan’s reggae-funk act Masaya. Troy Kingi will also showcase his latest folk-incarnation with new band The Promises.
With the freedom to come and go from the festival, minimal bar-queues, well-trained security and varied food and entertainment options, Jim Beam Homegrown is renowned for its user-friendliness. Event organisers promise the latest version of the festival will set the bar even higher.
Tuck explains, “We go back to the drawing board each year to tweak anything that could be improved, and we are really happy with how things are looking. We’ve had an interesting couple of years thanks to COVID but are feeling confident that by March next year, things will have settled down and we can bring our A-game.”
The full line up announcement is scheduled for early November. Tickets are on sale now and can also be purchased through the new payment plan option, visit homegrown.net.nz.
