Aotearoa's RnB King Chong-Nee Drops Slinky New Single + Video With 'Musik' Ft. Nainz

17 June 2022 - 0 Comments

A name synonymous with New Zealand’s hip-hop and RnB music scene, Chong-Nee is one of our most renowned and prolific talents. The two-time Pacific Music Award winning artist, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer, Chong-Nee (AKA Brown) needs little introduction, having forged a career like no other, over the years.

Now, with Musik, Chong-Nee collaborates with long-time friend and musical peer Nainz, one half of beloved RnB duo Adeaze, to deliver a soul-infused, banging old school RnB tune paying tribute to their love of music and giving thanks for their inspired journey to date.

This bringing together of two iconic RnB groups in AKA Brown and Adeaze, Musik is something that both Chong-Nee and Nainz have long wanted to do. A heartfelt ode to their shared mutual respect, love, and appreciation for music and each other, it has also allowed to them to consider the invaluable and treasured role that music has played in their lives, helping shape them into the people they are today.

Chong-Nee worked on the foundation of Musik himself, then worked closely with Nainz before they delivered it to up and coming producer Sonny Bishop for his contribution to the final elements of the song. Sampling his own AKA Brown track Something I Need with the tune, is a nod to his past and an acknowledgement of AKA Brown.

The stylistically smooth look of the video mirrors the suave feel of the track. Produced by Imaginary Friends, shot and directed by Dave Thomson, it features long-time musical mates Che Fu, Dei Hamo, Jamie Leaf (Foundation), Pat Matehaere (Live Live), Francis Harawira (The Black Seeds), Tau Harawira (Unity Pacific), Victor Chong-Nee, Siavani (Cydel), GiantKilla, and more) hanging with them, reminiscing on shared times past.

It’s been a little while between solo releases, but Chong-Nee is always busy with music – recording, producing, and writing for others – including his band Foundation. His recent releases as producer or featured artist include Tone 6 (Another Level of Emotion), Poetik (Leave Me Alone), Shane Walker (Jump) and Lion Rezz (Rockin’).

With a musical history and legacy that spans generations and genres, Chong-Nee’s track record and reputation speaks for itself. His unique contributions to countless songs for Aotearoa and international artists, has seen his talents flow from reggae and RnB, to hip hop and soul and everything else in between, ensuring that this artist and multi-instrumentalist has created an impressive and remarkable body of work.

By working together on the song, Musik is the result of a long awaited collaboration for these two respected legends in the game, and this is the old school RnB we have all been missing!
