Golden Plates from San Diego, California and DateMonthYear from Hamilton, New Zealand have teamed up for a new single song release called Thots and Prayers.
Thots and Prayers is a piece begun in Aotearoa and finished in the United States. DateMonthYear’s Trevor Faville wrote an instrumental track to which Golden Plates' Elder Brycen added powerful and evocative vocals and the trademark Golden Plates production style to a song that recoils from and rails against the recent horror in Uvalde.
Thots and Prayers is very much a song for these times. It was inspired and motivated by the recent tragic events in Uvalde and In the best tradition of songs that focus on real world events, it retains an angry spirit and a human heart.
Golden Plates’ Elder Brycen says:
"I spent over a year trying to figure out the path for this song, it was so much more happy than anything I've released previously, and I was trying to make the lyrics depressing with a joyous melody to contrast the mood of the guitars, and then Uvalde happened and I knew exactly what the song was always meant to be."
Trevor Faville from DateMonthYear adds "collaborating like this is a new thing for me, and it's proved to be really rewarding. I began writing this and I had no idea of what it could sound like when finished. I love the direction that it has gone- Elder Brycen has written with an insight, a power and an immediacy that I would never have been able to do.”
Thots and Prayers is able to be heard on your preferred streaming platform:
