Evening is Youth follow up their first two singles, Did You Find Your Brain and I'm Glad I Left, with the release of their five track, self-titled debut EP.
Though ambiguous, each track draws deeply from adolescent anxieties that define modern youth. Identity, self-actualisation and the ‘peeling away of the fabricated layers of personality’ are all consistent themes throughout the EP.
The music is influenced by the vast history of post punk, shoegaze, and indie electronica - distilled down into a unique sound connected by the collective authenticity and legacy of those previous countercultures. “Everything that has ever happened to us informs our music,” says frontman Connor Robinson-Pierce.
The trio of Connor Robinson-Pierce, Luke Lattimore and Jack Collin, just like their musical heroes before them, refuse to offer justification or explanation for what they do. “A song is only yours until it's heard by others, it shouldn’t - or can’t really - have one meaning,” says Connor.
As a band Evening is Youth is as much inspired by the general aimlessness of their generation as it is by their musical heritage .
Evening is Youth EP is out today via New Zealand indie label Bigpop Records.
The Evening is Youth EP is just the beginning. What this trio lacks in longevity they more than make up for in quality.
Recorded and mixed at Bigpop Studios in Auckland, New Zealand and produced by Jacob Rush and Connor Robinson-Pierce - with executive production from legendary New Zealand producer Chris van de Geer - the EP's sound is a confident and inspiring statement by this exciting young band.
Evening is Youth is currently preparing for live shows whilst writing and recording songs for their follow up EP which is to be released towards the end of the year.
