Hyper-stylized, electronic alt-pop artist Hooks has today released the fun and flirty new single People.
Listen to People HERE
Sprinkled with moments of ear candy, People is packed with infectious hooks, an unforgettable bassline and a groove that is impossible not to dance to. It’s fun, flirty, cheeky, happy, poppy and carefree; everything needed for a good time packaged into two minutes and 38 seconds.
“To set the scene of People: imagine being at a party, talking to heaps of different people that you’re not really vibing with,” says Hooks. “You’re generally underwhelmed, when all of a sudden someone who you’ve always liked but haven’t talked to since the last time you saw them (when you kind of fell in love for 5 minutes), walks into the room.”
Made with support from NZ On Air, the single was co-written with Henry Beasley (Balu Brigada) and recorded in Browns Bay with producer and co-writer Simon Oscraft. Mixed by award-winning Simon Gooding, the track was then mastered by the prolific U.K based John Davis (Dua Lipa, U2, Years & Years).
People is the third single to be released from Hooks this year, following the lush and seductive Rush, and the catchy debut release Forever. Each track showcases a different side to Hooks, as “it’s all about sonic diversity and exploring my writing ability within the pop realm. You can expect anything and everything!”
Packed with tasty hooks and a delightful swirling menagerie of influences, from Latin-American rhythms, disco, lounge, jazz, indie and pop, Hooks has sounds reminiscent of Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Groove Armada, DJ Spiller, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Morcheeba.
Hooks is a project that is just getting started; dive into the sonic landscape of recent singles and keep an eye out for more exciting music to come!
