22-year-old Christchurch born singer songwriter Ella Minehan is back with her third single, First Light. An addictive upbeat tempo paired with teasing lyrics and strong harmonies, First Light is the perfect coming of age story of what can happen when you don’t let past trauma dictate future relationships. It details that moment of letting go of your ghosts and fears; to allow yourself to connect with someone and where it can take you. Stacked harmonies back the strong vocal melody to create a relatably moody, yet captivating track, situated heavily in the Pop (with R&B elements) realm; a place where Minehan truly shines.
With two successful releases already under her belt - Written Lines and Lavender Hearts (the latter was selected for NZ on Air’s NewTracks February compilation and peaked at No. 3 on the iTunes NZ Singles Chart) - it is looking like this one will follow suit, having just been selected for NZ On Air’s New Tracks August compilation.
Written by Minehan and Wellington producer, Yohan De Silva, in 2021, the song was created as the conclusion of her three single release and closes the chapter of this moody era of Minehan’s life – while prepping for a new direction of music to come this year.
First Light will be available for streaming on all major platforms on 5 August 2022.
